        Will M. Ensley
Memorial
Scholarship          FoundationTM

The Will M. Ensley Memorial Scholarship Foundation was established in 2023 after the tragic death of Will Ensley. Will was a strong competitive swimmer, and the foundation bearing his name was established to aid those who swam competitively in high school in furthering their education after high school graduation.

The Will Ensley Invitational Swim Meet is a boys high school swim meet held each January at the  Shawnee Mission School District Aquatic Center in Lenexa, KS.  We offer commemorative, fundraiser t-shirts for sale at the meet each year.

We have received our 501C3 public charity status.  And, we awarded our first scholarship to a 2024 Shawnee Mission Northwest High School graduate swimmer in January 2025 for the spring college semester.  Shawnee Mission Northwest High School is located in Shawnee, KS.

In the fall of 2025 we will award scholarships to two applicants with one graduating from the Shawnee Mission Northwest High School Swim Program, and one graduating from the Empire KC swim club.

You can support the foundation's cause of lightening the burden of a college education with a monetary gift.  No gift is too small or too large.

ABOUT US >

Will Ensley was seventeen years old, and just a few weeks away from the start of his senior year of high schools when he was killed on Wednesday morning, July 26, 2023 by a reckless dump truck driver. Will was stopped, waiting at a red light when the driver of the dump truck drove into the line of stopped cars at the light.  Will's vehicle was the first hit, so it bore the brunt of the impact damage with the driver of the dump truck ultimately parking his truck on top of the cab of Will's pickup. Will fought hard, but his injuries were not survivable.

Will was a bright light in this world. He was a smart, funny, loving and caring person with a bright future ahead of him. And, he was a strong, competitive swimmer who truly loved the sport of swim.  He had competed competitively since the age of 9, and just loved competing, being involved in, and being around the sport of swim.  In addition to swimming competitively, he managed the Shawnee Mission Northwest High School girls swim team for two seasons.

Will had registered as an organ donor when he got his driver’s license. I’m sure that he, like many others, never thought that his decision would end up benefitting others the way that it ultimately did. He died a hero to many by helping save the lives of two individuals with his donated kidneys, and he has helped improve the lives of countless others through the donation of his corneas, skin tissues, blood vessels, heart valves, and bone. Please take a moment to check the organ donation box the next time you renew your license, so you too may be able to offer others the incredible gift of life.

The Will M. Ensley Memorial Scholarship Foundation, a 501c3 public charity, was established to honor Will, his love for life, his love for the sport of swim, and to support others who share his love for the sport of swim. The foundation was established to provide annual college scholarships to deserving graduating seniors from the Shawnee Mission Northwest High School swim programs, and deserving high school seniors graduating from the Empire KC Swim Club. Our hope is that through the foundation’s charitable gifts Will’s light will continue to shine in this world. If you’d like to donate directly to the Will M. Ensley Memorial Scholarship Foundation you may do so here.
